How ISRO’s Chandrayaan 3 project with its Indegenous built rocket (LVM3 M4) with lander (Vikram) and rover (Pragyan) became a game changer for Indian Business eco-system like Handicraft and Handloom industry?
India created history by launching the Chandrayaan 3 project and safely landing on the South Pole of the moon on August 23, 2023. As the rover (Pragyan) is navigating through the moon’s surface to collect moon soil and environment data, back on earth this project has created an indelible impression upon the Global community regarding India’s increasing capabilities in conducting Space Research and Exploration.
Along with this achievement another big achievement is the completion of the entire project in a record low budget (only 615 crore)
All the equipments and parts of the spaceship including the lander and the rover were designed and manufactured in India. The companies who are directly involved in the project are: Larsen & Tourbo (L&T), Tata Consulting Engineers Limited (TCE), Bharat Heavy Electricals, MTAR Technologies, Godrej Aerospace, Ankit Aerospace, Walchandnagar Industries, and others. With such low cost, there is ample opportunity to increase production (of space equipments) with efficiency and accuracy.
With the emerging space industry, ISRO can not only do space mining but also launch spacecrafts on behalf of other countries (currently its already sending satellites for other nations). It can also sell and design space equipments at record low cost. The possibilities are endless.
If the manufacturing industry including the handicraft and handloom industry can learn from ISRO, the following steps can be taken for increasing productivity as well as maintaining demand.
- At the initial stage, handmade products should be designed due to their complexity, and limited supply of raw materials. Handmade products will always be less in numbers due to the limited supply of raw materials.
- However, artificial raw materials which has abundance of scope of increasing production should be produced in large quantities considering easy availability of raw materials.
Production should be backed by demand. Because without the need for the product, more production will create wastage. - Raw Material which have limited supply can produce unique Handcrafted items. However, artificial manmade raw materials in abundant supply can create large quantity low cost productions.
- Quality checks should also be implemented to ensure efficiency in all such low cost production.
